Will I ever create Iron Snout 2?

One of the most popular questions I get asked is about Iron Snout sequel. Will I make one? Will there ever be Iron Snout 2? It is also something I ask myself, because creating a new version of my most popular game would make a lot of sense. However, there are quite a few obstacles which I would need to overcome first… So what does stand between me and Iron Snout 2?

Long trail of other projects

I follow an indie game developer tradition of a short attention span and constantly starting new projects. Hence there always are at least 2 or 3 games that I would like to complete first, before starting something like a sequel for my older game.

Lack of knowledge

When I was creating Iron Snout I did not plan for the main character to have any outfits, so went with the simplest graphical solution and all of the moves of the main character ended up as frame-by-frame animation, which caused many problems down the line and made adding new moves to the game extremely unpractical, since EVERY existing outfit would have to have new frames added to their sprite sheets.

This is something that would have to be solved in Iron Snout 2 and the best option would be Spine animations, but I have never used that tool and I’m worried it might be too limiting for some crazier pig-fu moves that I would like to add.

Lack of interest in creating Iron Snout 2

In this point of my gamedev career I’m much more interested in exploring new ideas and trying to make games of different genres, so making sequels just does not sound that appealing, even if it would be a smart decision business-wise. I am not a very business-y developer, that’s for sure.

In short, Iron Snout 2 is something that might happen, but it certainly won’t happen in the near future.
